Speeding for Jesus
02:49
|
|||
The alarm goes off and you're running late,
Jump out of bed like a horse out of the gate,
Should have never stayed out past 2 am, and it's Sunday.
Well, what's the harm in watching the game,
A few beers later and it's all the same,
Every Saturday night, rolls on by and it's Sunday.
Like Dale Earnhardt Jr. I jump in the car,
I'm not trying to be a super rockstar,
Just trying to get to church on time,
But the clock on the dash says, 10:59.
I'd hate to assume that I've been blessed,
But at 80 miles an hour God gives me a pass,
Ooo, I'm speedin' for Jesus.
Well, I know I'm not a perfect soul,
Everyone has a vice they can't control,
Forgive their sins and forgive again on Sunday.
Chorus
I know it's been a problem since the day I was born,
Came into the world late, take my life by storm.
When I grow old, I'll probably settle down,
Now's the time to take life in, Who says pushing the limit's a sin?

Blue Hat
03:51
|
|||
Where I grew up, we all put on farm clothes,
Old recycled mismatched caps and jeans,
Orphan sock and mittens made in 4H,
Seed corn caps and jackets used for hauling grain.
All the men were in their farm clothes,
The day they tore that ailing old barn down,
A play ground full of memories of my childhood,
How I'll miss having that old barn around.
Blue hat, blue hat,
Snug and fuzzy true hat,
Hat that makes you smile, makes you cry,
Warm hat, comfort hat,
Helps you follow through hat,
Silly knitted cap to catch your eye.
Helen tied her children together,
A stern German was what she knew to be,
A grandma holds an ancestry together,
Perched herself atop the family tree.
And the picture on the wall is of my parents,
My brother looking handsome and kind,
Life has a way of always moving forward,
But it's a happy time that's concrete in my mind.
Blue hat, blue hat,
Snug and fuzzy true hat,
Hat that makes you smile, makes you cry,
Warm hat, comfort hat,
Helps you follow through hat,
Silly knitted cap to catch your eye.
It's a snug hat, as a rug hat,
Takes you far away hat,
Makes you feel as good as apple pie,
It's a thick hat, it's a slick hat,
I think that is the trick hat,
Sometimes it's really hard to say goodbye.

Catch the Rain
04:06
|
|||
Three am,
Another sleepless night,
Wind blows, leaves are falling,
Not putting up a fight.
Days grow short,
The chill sets in,
They say that love's a temporary madness,
And leaves your tail to spin.
But can you catch the rain?
So entwined,
Like a vine that seemed to have no ending,
You were mine,
But our garden needed desperate tending.
It's a phase in everyone's life,
When a little bit of sunshine peeks out of the clouds,
And finds the bright, shiny lining we've all longed to dream about.
But can you catch the rain?
If you fall out of love from desperation,
If you fall out of love but worked so hard,
It turns into a business situation,
Too much water needs a lifeguard.
Three am,
Bullets of water from the sky,
Drown out salty tears, streaming from my eyes.
Floods have left distraction,
Pain and disarray,
But it's cleansing power has a tendency to wash the pain away.
So you can catch the rain.

Crush
02:39
|
|||
CRUSH I've got a crush on you.
I know that is the feeling when I almost hit the ceiling when you walk into a room.
My hands get kind of sweaty and I know it's kind of petty,
Hope I'm not too eager as the plea is kind of meager
CRUSH, I've got a crush on you.
FLAME, I'd like to be your flame,
The object of desire, heart is burning with a fire and I hope you feel the same,
A puppy would be luck to love you in old Kentucky,
I don't need to be your bride, just want to snuggle by your side,
FLAME, I'd like to be your flame.
I'd hate to admit that I've been hit by a sharp arrow of love,
Trying to face my warm embrace, could fit you like a glove!
SUNNY, you are my sunny day.
When the days are looks brighter, and my feet are feeling lighter and the clouds just slip away.
If you give me just a chance you know your life would be enhanced with a cheerful, kind affection, like a whoopee pie confection,
SUNNY, you are my sunny day.
I'm not trying to be funny with a song that sounds so sunny,
I'm not trying to be lame but I'd like to be your flame,
I could be your old shoe, if you put me in the queue,
Cause, I've got a crush on you.

I'd Do It For You
02:59
|
|||
Do you like the Grateful Dead?
A cassette in his hand,
I shook my head,
"I don't yet, but I will," I said,
"I'll listen to it for you".
How's about a skiing trip,
We could take a hike or take a dip,
I said, "I don't swim, and I rarely ski,
but I think I could be free."
He said, "Do you like beer or do you like wine?"
"I'd prefer wine, but beer is fine. I'd drink a sip or two,
I'd do it for you".
I would disappear into you,
You have my heart,
Do what you choose to do,
Take my hand, I am yours.
He said, "I don't want to commit right now,"
We'll have fun, he likes to show me how.
His carefree ways are his move,
but I can can be carefree too.
I will carry for you, all the pain
I will give you the sun and I will give you the rain,
and when you ask me to, I'll give you your space
and fade into you.
I'd leave the clock on the wall,
leave the dishes in the sink
leave the coats in the hall.
I'd give you the morning paper out of my hand,
I'd make you some coffee
and I'd quit my band,
If lightening tears the sky in two,
I'd do it for you.
I'd do it all for you.

Rise Up
04:11
|
|||
People say you've gotta rise up
So thank the children and praise the lord.
A wall of many, a wall of young,
Lives been taken in front of a gun,
Gone their spirit a song unsung,
Taken away to the kingdom come.
If God created a world of good,
Why are many misunderstood,
Shots ring through the neighborhood,
Flowers grow where a child once stood.
People say you've gotta rise up
So thank the children and praise the lord.
I believe in justice one day,
where violence stops and melts away,
Where fear and tensions are held at bay,
And common ground, it makes it's way.
I dream in quiet, I dream out loud,
Pray for the families, pray for the proud,
If love and hope can't win this race,
I dream and pray to give us grace.
People say you've gotta rise up
So thank the children and praise the lord.

Take Your Time Goin'
03:37
|
|||
When I was growing up, my daddy would start his day,
a little bit later in the morning, than a typical farmer way.
He'd linger over coffee, well past the rooster's crow,
tractors in the field and the morning seeds to sow.
He'd wait until the sun so high up in the sky,
was heating up the earth like the fourth of July.
I'd run out the door to catch the bus each day.
He'd send us on our way and these words he'd often say.
He said,"Take your time going, hurry back, smell the roses then get back on track. Doesn't matter who wins the race, enjoy the ride in second place, don't get uptight about who's lost or won, Time don't mean a thing when it's said and done."
Well, folks around would talk about my daddy's ways,
During rounds of cards much later in the day.
They'd whisper as he walked on by, the late night sleepy head,
Heckling as he passed on yelling''Get your ass out of bed".
But my dad would stand real tall as men all turned his way,
He said these words of wisdom as the sun would set each day.
He said,"Take your time going, hurry back, smell the roses then get back on track. Doesn't matter who wins the race, enjoy the ride in second place, don't get uptight about who's lost or won, Time don't mean a thing when it's said and done."
Seasons they come and seasons they go,
Chores have been done and grass has been mowed.
We all have a special way of getting through this life,
Some rush out the door and some stay and kiss their wife.
So why would neighbors care how timely work is done,
The early bird gets the worm when the sleepy bird gets none.
And maybe it's the secret of how the west was won,
Get it done at midnight, before the rising sun?
So..."Take your time going, hurry back, smell the roses then get back on track. Doesn't matter who wins the race, enjoy the ride in second place, don't get uptight about who's lost or won, Time don't mean a thing when it's said and done."

Stars
03:43
|
|||
Looking up towards the dark night sky,
Not a word was spoken, it was a blur to the eye,
Time stands still, we are mesmerized,
If you're lucky enough to witness life go by,
The real truth of the universe,
Makes us human gives us life on earth,
Makes us feel and it makes us breathe,
It is all connected,
Cause we are made of stars.
Any given day, we see into the souls,
Pairs of eyes, of stranger's lives,
Weeks are long, and the years are quick,
From dawn to dusk, from birth to death.
The real truth of the universe,
Makes us human gives us life on earth,
Makes us feel and it makes us breathe,
It is all connected,
Cause we are made of stars.
So look up, look around,
When you feel small, when you can't face the day at all,
See the night sky, see the stars that fall,
It's a mystery that unites us all,
The real truth of the universe,
Makes us human gives us life on earth,
Makes us feel and it makes us breathe,
It is all connected,
You are all connected,
We are all connected,
Cause we are made of stars.

Trouble
04:56
|
|||
Step right up I've got trouble,
Trouble's consuming me,
So hard worrying about tomorrow,
When the now is all I can see,
So here's my request,
I need someone to suggest,
How to find the song inside me,
So deep within, quiet's my only friend,
So I'll travel on in search of relief.
Step right up let me tell you about trouble,
Heartache is following me
Wars, and choppy waters,
leaving sorrow and grief.
So here's my request,
I need someone to suggest,
How to find the song inside me,
So deep within, quiet's my only friend.
So I'll travel on is search of relief.
Come on down here I've got trouble,
Please don't push me away.
I search for greener pastures,
Where I'm not lost in the fray.
So here's my request,
I need someone to suggest
How to find the song inside me,
So deep within quiet's my only friend,
So I'll travel on in search of relief.

Feel Alive
02:42
|
|||
Living on a boat,
Living on the road,
Living on an airplane,
Packing for a month,
packing for a year, an overnight stay.
Looking for the light,
Looking for the glam,
Looking for the postcards sent,
Waiting for a break,
Climbing up a ladder
before it's bent.
Making deals with friends,
Making deals with foe,
Making deals with lovers,
Drink another round,
Find another town
to rediscover.
No need to sleep,
Who needs to sleep
when life will pass you by,
Stay awake,
The time is now,
Work hard somehow.
So go....What do you do to feel alive? So go...
Vegas calling,
Gamblers brawling,
Date a showgirl,
New York City styles,
Oozing fashion,
Miles and miles of pin curls.
Lying in my bed,
Pounding in my head,
The music's way too loud.
Can't head back now,
Pay bills somehow,
Make parents proud.
Break another heart,
Make a brand new start,
Have a midlife crisis,
Naked in the rain,
Jump out of a plane,
Take a subway train,
Make a bucket list
of things you've missed
Then get it started,
Gassing up the car,
Bringing the guitar.
So go...What do you do to feel alive? So go...

Iris lullaby
03:11
|
|||
Well, Good night, Good night, I'll see you again,
When you wake, will you wait for me?
I'll come back for you, I always do,
When the light shines upon your face.
Now have no fear, I'll always be near,
Call my name if you ever need me,
May your dreams be sweet,
And your rest be complete,
when the birds begin to sing.
Safe and kind smiles the moon up high,
Celestial grace lights the darkened sky.
Well, Good night, Good night, I'll see you again,
When you wake, will you wait for me?
I'll come back for you, I always do,
When the light shines upon your face.

Belle of the Ball
03:41
|
|||
She looks around,
Sees the faces,
Saving graces in the light.
Mics are on,
Drinks flow freely,
Time to see her, no stage fright.
Tuesday night,
Feels alright,
What a sight,
She's the belle of the ball.
Loves no one but she loves them all
She's the belle of the ball.
People gather around,
She looks outrageous,
Acts contagious,
And sings her song.
She's not French,
or a southern lady,
but makes Scarlett O'Hara proud.
Despite her faults,
We were invited,
She was delighted,
She's the belle of the ball.
