about

When I was pregnant with Iris, I watched a movie called, Waitress. It really resonated with me for some reason. I loved the story and connected with the main character during her pregnancy. I was saddened to find out that the writer/actress of the screenplay was murdered before the movie came out. There was a sweet lullaby at the end of the film about baking a pie. “Baby don’t you cry, Gonna bake a pie, Gonna bake a pie with a heart in the middle”. When Iris was born, I would sing her that lullaby as well as this song, Iris’s lullaby, which organically happened over a few months of rocking her in the middle of the night. I still think of sitting in the glider chair in her nursery when I hear this song.

lyrics

Well, Good night, Good night, I'll see you again,
When you wake, will you wait for me?
I'll come back for you, I always do,
When the light shines upon your face.

Now have no fear, I'll always be near,
Call my name if you ever need me,
May your dreams be sweet,
And your rest be complete,
when the birds begin to sing.

Safe and kind smiles the moon up high,
Celestial grace lights the darkened sky.

Well, Good night, Good night, I'll see you again,
When you wake, will you wait for me?
I'll come back for you, I always do,
When the light shines upon your face.
